xx Photo realistic 3D renderings
« Thread started on: Jan 17th, 2011, 10:25am »

One thing that the program has always lacked is the ability to produce realistic 3D renderings. After a little research I found out I still can't produce these in the program but I can produce a file that can be imported into a 3D rendering program. Below is a sample I made with Kerkythea, a free program that works great, though it takes a good deal of learning.

I still have 2-4 weeks of programming left to get something releasable but if this is something you're interested in, you should download Kerky and start getting to know it. Also, if you send me a job file I can put together a sample of it for you to use. For now it needs to be either just one wall or an L shaped layout as below.

So will we be able to import something from Cab planner into this product and it will render it?

Looks nice!

Yep, that's the plan. The rendering above is of the sample kitchen job the ships with Cabinet Planner.

You should go the the Kerkythea website and look through the gallery there. It's pretty amazing what that program can do.

Yep, that kitchen was created with Cabinet Planner. Under the photo on the home page is a link to a page that describes how to create an .obj file and open/render it in Kerky.

One thing I forgot to mention on the update page is that I've added can lights and a soffit. The soffit is basically just a wall colored box that can also be used for a ceiling or any place you need a wall that will show on another wall, like for an alcove.

That is 4 upper fillers with some tiny columns between.

This is really helpful Rob. I did my first rendering with this last night and although I am a total novice it turned out pretty good. One thing I found is that you can tuck can lights under uppers to simulate under cabinet lighting.

I am definately going to use the soffit feature to plug in a ceiling next time

That looks great!

Yep, a ceiling helps to complete the look. It also helps if you add an image to the floor.

If you want to really finish it off, do some googling for free dxf files of computers and various office furnishings. You can use the merge(?) feature to add them to a rendering, but you usually need to rotate and scale them.

Also, you can add a flat surface under the cabinets in kerky and then apply lighting to it the same as with the can lights. That'll give the look of a florescent tube.

Looks good! How long did it take to render the image and how many lines did you use?
