xx ‘Normal’ file handling

The program will now allow you to double-click on a job file (with new icon above) to open it in the program. And, that is the file that will be used, instead of the program placing a copy of it in the AppData folder & using it.

To do this I had to start using a new file extension, ‘.cpdat’, though the program will still recognize existing ‘.dat’ files. You can convert any .dat files by using the ‘Save as’ function and adding .cpdat to the file name.

Note:
You cannot open a file from a cd. It needs to be copied and pasted to your computer. This is because the program needs to be able to write to the file each time you make a change to the job and cd’s don’t allow this.

Can they be saved in a folder/location of choice?
I was testing and can not save to the desktop.

Yes, but Windows has more than 1 desktop (all users, current user, any other user, etc..). If you press the 'desktop' button in the file dialog window it should give you the one you can save it to.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to wait a week or so before adding this to the regular update.

Until then keep trying to break it. That's the only way to find & fix any problems that may show up, though I don't think there will be any.

Had a little different experience. The file with the .cpdat extension was saved to a user selected directory C:\xyz.cpdat. Double clicking file from explorer C:\xyz.cpdat launches applicatoin, but the cabinet data is missing. If I open file from within Cabinet Planner using File/Open and select C:\xyz.cpdat the file opens and the job data is populated.

Did a quick test on my system and "c:\" is a protected location. I manually copied and pasted the file there and had to give admistrative permission for it and the file icon had a little lock on it. If I saved it there through the program it was put in a compatibility folder.

Isn't Windows great!

Try saving it to another location.

Sorry Rob, C:\xyz was an example because I was too lazy to type the intire path. The path to the file is actually C:\Users\Dave Ber\Documents\Timberwolf\Timberwolf Cabinetry\Jobs\Whitcomb\Whitcomb Proposal 2.cpdat. Permissions are allow for user and administrator.

Did you by chance go back and install the regular update afterward? If so it won't work.

I did not reinstall the regular version. I tried two other things: 1) re-ran the temporary version - no change; 2) rebooted the system - no change.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit OS on an Intel platform Duo CPU T8300 2.4 GHz system.

I could do a uninstall/reinstall, but is there a way to save my configuration/pricing data?

unistalling/reinstalling the program will not change your settings. They are created in a separate folder when the program is run the first time.

It probably won't change anything.

Check the About window in the program, the version date should be 12/30/2011. If that is correct I'll have to do some checking to see what else it could be.
